In yesterday's afternoon rally in Milan, Prime Minister Berlusconi said his government will go down in history as the government has defeated the mafia .. .. We would like to inform Mr. Chairman of the Council, this event has already happened in the history of Italy, more than seventy years ago, and the executive who brought to fruition this great achievement was the government of Benito Mussolini. Only Americans landed in Sicily in the summer of 1943 and the subsequent military occupation, the men of the mafia could go undisturbed in our country, to resume and strengthen even further their illicit activities and their influence throughout the South of 'Italy.
